The Detroit Tigers are an American professional baseball team based in Detroit, Michigan. The Tigers compete in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a member of the American League (AL) Central division. One of the AL's eight charter franchises, the club was founded in Detroit as a member of the minor league Western League in 1894. They are the oldest continuous one name, one city franchise in the AL. In 1935, the Tigers led the New York Yankees with a score of 93 wins and 58 losses and won the US League Championship. This is the team's fifth time to enter the World Series. The starting lineup of the team in the World Series is Hall of Fame Hank Greenberg, Mickey Cochrane, Goose Goslinc and Charlie Gehringer.
